Biscuits

2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons sugar
½ teaspoon cream of tartar
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup butter
2/3 cup milk

Stir together dry ingredients.  Cut in butter.  Add milk in a well, stir just until moistened.  Knead dough gently for 10-12 strokes.  Pat or roll to ½ inch thickness.  Cut with a 2 ½ inch biscuit cutter.  Bake at 450 for 10 min.

Drop biscuits- Increase milk to 1 cup.  Do not knead, roll or cut.  Drop by tablespoon onto greased baking sheet.
